I DID IT!!!

So, I ran my half marathon in San Francisco this past Sunday. It was great, challenging, but great. I'm very, VERY sore, but glad I did it. The hills were brutal but the scenery was stunning. It was great to run by pier 39 and hear the seal barking and to round a corner and see the waves crashing on the shore.
I ran with my friend Alexis for the first 11.5 miles. Having her there really helped me power through it all.
Thanks to everyone who supported me over the last five months. It really meant a lot to me.

Happy October

Well, this past Saturday I ran 11 miles, the farthest I have run since June and my last "long" run before actual race day. It's all very exciting and daunting. I've raised over $4600 which is pretty excellent. I'm very tired now.

PDR

So today I experienced a distance run not as a participant, but as a volunteer. I worked at the water stop at the 4.8 mile mark of the Philadelphia Distance Run which meant that I was out in front of the Philadelphia Art Museum at 5:30 am! I'm not gonna lie to you; I was NOT filled with team spirit as I staggered out of bed into the dark, chilly morning. But then the sun came up and the runners came and the energy was high and it really felt good to be a part of it all. Helping the runners achieve their goals felt great. Hearing the breathless "thank you's" and seeing my team mates make their way toward the finish line definitely made my day and gave me a good feeling that still lingers.

I'm in awe of the challenges that await me on October 21st, but to know that others, regardless of whether I know them or not, will be out there supporting me helps defuse some of that anxiety.

I did it...

Actually, you did it. You helped me meet and EXCEED my fundraising goal. It happened last weekend. It was a tremendous feeling to see that I had raised $4200 on my web page. Also, it could not have come at a better time. I confess, my confidence in my ability to meet my physical and financial goals had been wavering of late. Now, having met one, the other seems less daunting. So thank you all so much for supporting me; it means so much. Enjoy the rest of this holiday weekend, take care and be well.

Crossing the bridge

Yes, for the first time today, I actually crossed the East falls bridge, meaning that I completed "the loop" along the Schuylkill. Add in 1.5 miles down along the waterworks, and you've got yourself 10 miles! That's right, 10 miles! It is very cool that every weekend for the last three weekends, I've been able to say, "this is the farthest I've ever run." Pretty great!
As always, it would have been so much harder had I not had the team with me, so thanks to them. AND, thanks to everyone's continued generosity, I've raised $3400! I definitely could not have done that without you. What a great day.!
